Asian real estate investors are looking to expand their portfolios by seeking opportunities in the European housing market, through both direct and indirect investments as future of office segment during the COVID-19 pandemic season is uncertain.

According to Real Capital Analytics, in the third quarter alone, total property investment of Asian investors in the European real estate market reached 447 million USD. This number is even higher than the total investment in 2020 (223 million USD). In which, the total investment in the housing market accounted for 9% - higher than 5% in the same period last year.
NZ Super, a large New Zealand investment fund, is also expanding its European real estate portfolio including focusing on the student and senior housing market.
Aware Super, Australia's second largest investment fund, shares that it aims to make five large transactions per year in the European housing market.
Under the plan, this fund will focus on locations across the UK and elsewhere in Europe including some major cities as London, Dublin, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Madrid and Barcelona.
Asian insurers are also seeing growing potential in the European housing sector.
